Compare Prices Extension: Privacy Policy

What this extension does

3D Print Dash: Compare Prices has one purpose: to show what 3D Print Dash would charge for a 3D model, at three quality levels, while you compare quotes from other 3D printing services. You open a quote on another service, the extension finds the model on that page (or you upload it), measures it on your computer, and shows our price. It shows only our prices. It also lists other platforms, only to say where each one stands, for example that we are waiting for its permission to show its price.

It is available for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and this policy covers all four: it collects the same things in each.

What stays on your computer

Your 3D model file is read and measured inside your browser. It is not uploaded to us. The extension keeps your settings (your ZIP code if you enter one, your print options, your theme, and which comparison services you have switched on) in your browser's own extension storage on your computer. Uninstalling the extension removes them.

What we receive

To show our price, the extension sends 3D Print Dash: the model's volume, surface area and bounding-box size; the number of copies you chose; whether supports look necessary; and your ZIP code if you typed one. The material is always PLA, and the three quality levels are ours, so there is nothing else to send. It does not send the file, the file's name, or any other content from the page you are looking at.

Like any request to a website, it also reaches us with your IP address. We use it to look up a shipping rate, and, if you did not enter a ZIP code, to use the postal code our hosting provider infers from your connection. We use short-lived in-memory counters on that address to stop abuse. We do not link these requests to an account, and we do not sell, rent or use them for advertising. Our hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard request logs.

Looking at the page you are comparing against

The extension only looks at a page when you ask it to. Your browser asks you to allow access to that one site, and you can refuse; the extension then still works if you upload the file yourself. When allowed, it reads only: files already chosen in the page's upload boxes, files you drop or pick on the page, and web addresses in the page that point to 3D model files. It does not read the page's text, forms, passwords, cookies, or anything else, and it does not send any of it anywhere except the measurements described above.

It does not decode or bypass any protection on a file, does not use anything but your own session, and does not request addresses the page did not itself reference.

Other services

This version of the extension does not send your model file, or anything else, to any other company, and it shows no other company's price. The list of other platforms only says where each one stands. Nothing is sent to them.

Some companies could only price your model if they were sent the file. If a later version offers that, it would be off by default, it would ask you first and tell you exactly what would be sent, and we would update this page before it shipped.

Permissions the extension asks for, and why

Side panel (sidePanel): shows the extension in the browser's side panel, in Chrome and Edge. Firefox has no side panel, so the Firefox version shows the same panel in the browser's sidebar instead, and the Safari version shows it in a small window of its own. Neither needs any extra permission.

Storage (storage): remembers your settings on your computer.

Active tab and scripting (activeTab, scripting): let the extension look for the model on the page you are on, only when you ask.

Access to 3dprintdash.com: lets the extension ask our server for our price.

Optional access to other websites: requested one site at a time, at the moment you press the button to look for a model on that site, and never granted up front.

The extension does not run on every page, does not read your browsing history, and does not load or run code from anywhere but the extension itself.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Chrome's extension APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. The extension uses that information only to provide its single purpose described above. We do not sell it, do not transfer it to third parties except as described here to provide that purpose, do not use it for advertising, and no human reads it except as needed for security, to comply with law, or with your consent. The Edge, Firefox and Safari versions follow the same rules.

What the Firefox add-on tells Mozilla

Firefox asks every add-on to declare the data it collects. This one declares exactly what is described above: the measurements of your model (required, because pricing your model is the add-on's purpose), and, only if you type one, your ZIP code as approximate location (optional). It declares nothing else because it collects nothing else.

Your choices

You can decline access to any site, leave every comparison service switched off, clear your ZIP code in settings, or uninstall the extension at any time, which removes everything it stored on your computer. To ask about, correct or delete anything we hold, email contact@slowebdesign.com.

Changes and contact
